Yesterday was the first Nerdfighter gathering of the Year, after a dry spell of several months since the last proper gathering in October (see here). Over 65 Nerds descended on the Scott Monument at noon for a day of awesome.
As it was cold and there were so many of us, we found it difficult to find places indoors that would comfortably fit everyone - any old cafe just wasn’t big enough! We had to hop throughout the day from museums to shopping malls to giant coffee houses just to stay warm!
We exchanged bizarre hats at the Scott Monument, played Hide and Seek in the National Museum, and then headed up Carlton Hill to climb up on the “National Monument of Scotland” (also know as, Scotland’s Disgrace, and The Folly. Great names, eh?)

By 7pm the group had dwindled down to around 10 people, and there was a spontaneous decision to go to the cinema and see ‘The Muppets’. The film was hilarious and a perfect way to end the day. I got home at 11pm, utterly exhausted but just happy with life.

This was my third gathering and was even better than previous ones I had attended (if that were possible) because I got to re-meet old friends who I hadn’t seen in months, as well as finding new friends in the utter craziness that was that day.
I find it amazing how a tiny country like Scotland can produce such a fantastic community of Nerdfighters, and I am proud to be part of it.

Such an amazing day, and totally worth ditching my essay for a few hours. Though I missed the spontaneous cinema trip, Beverly, Susanne, Jimmy and I went on a Harry Potter tour, which was awesome, we all got wands to carry, and you should all go on it in the fringe.
